Dr. SAYED SALMA (1959-2022)

Dr Sayed Salma was a visionary educationalist and a social activist who made noteworthy contributions in the field of medical education. Her brilliant academic records and caring social activities made her a role model to be emulated among the medical community in Kerala, India.

Hailing from a modest family in the outskirts of Palakkad, with her sheer determination and tireless efforts she became an effective motivator and educator. Her untimely demise created a loss not only to the medical community but to the entire nation.  Even in her last days, braving with a terminal disease, she was working to establish an International Center for Nursing, based in Sydney, Australia.

She meritoriously served in the field of nursing for more than three decades, retired from the College of Nursing of Govt. Medical College Thrissur as Professor and Vice Principal. She also served in Calicult Medical College and Alshifa College of Nursing, Perinthalmanna as Associate Professor and Vice Principal respectively. She was awarded with a PhD by the University of Kerala for her research on measures to enhance the standard of nursing education in Kerala. This scholarly work has been published by the reputed Lambert Academic Publishing Company.

More than all of the above she has been a very active social worker. She contributed in many social and community service projects including the establishment of Women Service Society, Kozhikode, which has been rendering commendable work in respect of women empowerment.
